How much does GPS tracking cost for a UAE or Saudi fleet?
Manu Last updated: 2026-08-21 12 min read
A UAE fleet buying GPS tracking pays for six things: the device, installation, SIM and data, the platform subscription, compliance certificates and renewals. Only two of those carry published prices, SIRA’s SecurePath fees (AED 240 or 290 per licence per year, certificate AED 120) and Fleetric’s software tiers. Everything else is quote-only, and we checked.
Key takeaways
- The only regulator-published tracking prices in the UAE are SIRA’s SecurePath fees: Basic AED 240 per licence per year including SIM and data with a 50-licence minimum, Premium AED 290 with a 25-licence minimum, and a device approval certificate at AED 120 (SIRA, checked August 2026).
- No UAE tracking supplier we checked publishes device, installation or subscription prices: gpsmarket.ae, smartrack.ae and locator.ae all showed quote forms and no AED figures on 21 August 2026, matching the quote-only pattern of the global vendors we reviewed in July 2026.
- The Asateel approved supplier list carried 29 suppliers at its 21 April 2026 status date, and the ITC’s own list document recommends obtaining quotations from several suppliers and comparing prices (Abu Dhabi Mobility, 2026).
- The cost of not tracking is published even where the cost of tracking is not: AED 4,000 for operating with GPS missing, off, deactivated or unlinked in Abu Dhabi (Resolution 74/2021), and federal truck-tracking fines from Dh1,000 plus Dh100 per month up to Dh5,000 for non-registration (Gulf News, 2023).
- Devices must be 4G-class in practice: Etisalat by e& shut down its 2G networks by end of December 2022 (e& business notice, 2023), and the Asateel approved list consists of LTE devices.
- Fleetric publishes its software tiers at AED 120 (Starter) and AED 95 (Pro) per truck per month, the one public per-vehicle software price in this market.
What are the cost components of a fleet GPS tracking system?
Six components make up the real price, and a quote usually bundles them so they cannot be compared. The table below is the budget skeleton; the “published price” column is the honest state of the market as of August 2026, not a gap in our research.
| Component | What it covers | Published price? |
|---|---|---|
| GPS device (OBU) | The tracker itself; must be from an approved list where a mandate applies | None found; supplier quote only (checked August 2026) |
| Installation | Fitting, wiring, and later de-installation | None found; bundled into quotes (checked August 2026) |
| SIM and data | Mobile connectivity the device transmits over | Bundled; SIRA’s SecurePath Basic fee explicitly includes SIM and data |
| Platform subscription | The supplier’s tracking portal and reporting | Quote-only from suppliers; Fleetric software published at AED 120/95 per truck per month |
| Compliance certificates | SIRA device approval certificate; Asateel Certificate of Installation | SIRA lists AED 120 for the device approval certificate |
| Renewals | Annual SecurePath licences, annual Asateel activity permits, device replacement | SecurePath AED 240/290 per licence per year (SIRA); others quote-only |
Two readings of that table. First, the recurring lines outlast the one-off ones: licences, permits and subscriptions renew every year, so a cheap device on an expensive subscription is not cheap. Second, where a mandate applies, the device column is not a shopping decision; the approved list decides what you may buy, and only the quotes decide what you pay.
How much does a GPS tracker cost per month in the UAE?
Nobody selling one will tell you in public. On 21 August 2026 we checked three named UAE tracking vendors that rank for exactly these queries, gpsmarket.ae, smartrack.ae and locator.ae, and none publishes a single AED price for a device, an installation or a subscription; every path leads to a quote form. That matches the July 2026 finding across the global names (Cartrack, Location Solutions, Falcon Trackers, MiX by Powerfleet, Samsara, Verizon Connect) in our fleet software cost guide.
So the useful answer is a formula, not a number. Ask every supplier for three quantities: the one-off cost X (device plus installation), the monthly subscription Y, and the contract length in months N. The comparable monthly price is X/N + Y, and the questions that matter are the ones quotes blur: is the SIM inside Y, what does de-installation cost, and what happens to X if a device fails in year four.
Articles that print “trackers cost AED 300 to 1,500” are quoting nobody; we found no vendor page publishing such a range, so this article does not print one. The regulator’s procurement advice is the right method instead: the ITC’s own supplier list document recommends transport companies obtain quotations from several suppliers and compare their prices (Abu Dhabi Mobility, 2026). With no published prices, competing quotations are the only price discovery that exists.
What do the mandates force you to buy?
If your vehicles fall under Asateel, SecurePath or WASL, part of the tracking budget is not optional and not substitutable. The mandate names the device class, the approved list narrows the sellers, and the permit or licence machinery makes the paperwork recur annually.
Abu Dhabi (Asateel). Resolution 74/2021 makes installation of approved tracking devices a condition of the activity permit (Article 5(3)), and Abu Dhabi Mobility states that permits are only available for vehicles with a functioning tracking device installed. The device must come from the official approved list, which carried 29 suppliers at its 21 April 2026 status date, and the permit application requires the supplier’s Certificate of Installation. Operating with GPS missing, off, deactivated or unlinked costs AED 4,000 per the schedule appended to Resolution 74/2021. How to work the list is covered in the approved GPS supplier guide, and the wider mandate in the Asateel compliance guide.
Dubai (SecurePath). SIRA’s platform covers 18 eligible vehicle and cargo categories, from rental cars to hazardous cargo, and its fees are the one hard price in this article’s subject; the next section prices it out. Which of the two mandates applies to which vehicle is its own question, answered in SecurePath vs Asateel.
Saudi Arabia (WASL). The WASL platform links commercial fleets to the Transport General Authority, and the registration data set includes the device IMEI, approved model and SIM serial (vendor-reported integration guides, checked August 2026), so an approved, SIM-equipped device is assumed by the platform’s own data model. Active WASL streaming is a condition for issuing and renewing commercial-vehicle operating cards (vendor-reported, 2026).
One federal layer sits above all of this in the UAE: the National System for Tracking Trucks and Shipments under the ICP, enforced from 31 October 2023, fines non-registration at Dh1,000 in the first month plus Dh100 per month up to a Dh5,000 cap, and device tampering at Dh1,000 to Dh5,000 (Gulf News, 2023). And whatever device you buy must be TDRA type-approved before it can legally be imported, sold or activated in the UAE (TDRA Type Approval Regime v3.0; vendor-corroborated, 2026): an unapproved bargain tracker is not a bargain, it is contraband.
How much does SecurePath cost in Dubai?
SecurePath is the one system in the GCC whose tracking fees the regulator prints, so here they are with the arithmetic done, sourced to the official SIRA SecurePath service page (checked August 2026). SIRA lists Basic at AED 240 per licence per year including SIM and data, with a minimum of 50 licences, so the smallest Basic commitment is AED 12,000 per year. Premium is AED 290 per licence per year with a minimum of 25 licences, so the smallest Premium commitment is AED 7,250 per year. A device approval certificate is listed at AED 120 (SIRA, checked August 2026).
Per vehicle per month, the published licence fees work out to AED 20 (Basic) and about AED 24 (Premium). Vendor pages describe Basic as the tier rental-car companies need for registration and Mulkiya renewal, and Premium as the tier for goods, hazardous and high-value cargo (permits.ae, checked August 2026); treat that split as vendor-reported and confirm your category with SIRA.
Note what those fees do not include: the SecurePath-certified device itself and its installation, which are bought from providers at, again, unpublished prices. The published fee is the floor of the Dubai tracking budget, not the whole of it.
Does phone GPS make tracking free?
It makes tracking free on exactly the vehicles the law leaves alone, and that boundary is worth stating precisely because “free GPS tracking” pitches usually blur it. Phone GPS does not satisfy Asateel or SecurePath: Asateel permits require a functioning approved installed device, and SecurePath runs on SIRA-certified hardware. A mandated truck needs the approved OBU regardless of what any software vendor says.
Where phone GPS genuinely changes the budget is everywhere else. Pickups, supervisor cars, rentals outside scope, and vehicles no mandate touches can be tracked with the phone the driver already carries, deleting the device, installation and SIM lines for those vehicles entirely. On mandated vehicles it removes a subtler cost: buying a second tracker because a software product cannot read the mandated one. Fleetric is a fleet profit intelligence platform for GCC fleets, in daily production with a construction fleet in Abu Dhabi, that reads mandated tracking feeds and computes per-vehicle profit. It is hardware-optional by design: mandated vehicles keep their approved feed, non-mandated vehicles can run phone GPS, and the software layer costs what the pricing page says, AED 120 or AED 95 per truck per month, with no Fleetric device line item on either kind of vehicle. Fleetric is early stage, so these are launch prices, stated plainly; the product runs in daily production with one construction fleet in Abu Dhabi.
What does a worked tracking budget look like?
Every number in this section is either published-and-cited or a labelled variable; the layout is illustrative, your quotes fill the blanks. Take a mixed fleet: 20 mandated trucks in Abu Dhabi, 50 rental cars in Dubai, 10 support vehicles under no mandate.
- 20 Abu Dhabi trucks. Each needs an approved OBU from one of the 29 listed suppliers. Collect at least three quotes for X (device plus installation, one-off), Y (monthly subscription with SIM) and N (contract months); the truck’s tracking cost is X/N + Y per month. Add the Asateel activity permit renewal every year, at whatever the current application costs, since no official fee schedule is published.
- 50 Dubai rental cars. SecurePath Basic at the 50-licence minimum is AED 12,000 per year in published SIRA fees, AED 20 per car per month, plus the certified devices and installation on supplier quotes (X/N as above).
- 10 support vehicles. No mandate, so no device: phone GPS plus software only. At Fleetric’s published Pro tier that is AED 95 per vehicle per month, and the hardware column for these ten vehicles is zero.
The structural point survives even with the X’s unfilled: the mandated 70 vehicles carry hardware costs that only quotes can price, the 10 free vehicles carry none, and the recurring software layer is the only line where a published per-vehicle price lets you budget to the dirham before a single call.
What hidden costs should you watch?
The quote is rarely the total, and the recurring surprises are predictable. Four worth pricing before signature:
- The second device. If a software product needs its own tracker beside the mandated OBU, you pay X, installation and a SIM twice for the same coordinates. Prefer software that reads the feed you already run.
- Exit and de-installation. Multi-year contracts can charge to remove hardware and can take the data with them. Ask what a feed export costs before signing.
- Obsolete radios. 2G devices became scrap when Etisalat by e& completed its 2G shutdown at end-2022 (e&, 2023); anything you buy now should be LTE-class, as the entire Asateel approved list already is.
- Renewal cadence. SecurePath licences are annual (SIRA), Asateel activity permits are annual (Resolution 74/2021), and both renew whether anyone remembers them or not; a lapse converts a budget line into a fine line.
Prices and fees last reviewed against SIRA, Abu Dhabi Mobility and the named vendor pages on 21 August 2026. FAQ
How much does GPS tracking cost per vehicle in the UAE?
The only published prices are regulatory and software ones. SIRA lists SecurePath at AED 240 per licence per year (Basic, minimum 50) or AED 290 (Premium, minimum 25), and Fleetric publishes AED 120 and AED 95 per truck per month for software. Device, installation and SIM prices are quote-only; no UAE tracking supplier we checked in August 2026 publishes them.
How much does a GPS tracker cost per month?
No UAE supplier we checked in August 2026 publishes a monthly tracker price, so the honest answer is a formula, not a number. Take the quoted one-off device-plus-installation cost, divide by the contract months, and add the monthly subscription. Compare suppliers on that total; the ITC itself recommends obtaining and comparing several quotations.
How much does the SecurePath subscription cost in Dubai?
SIRA publishes the fees. Basic is AED 240 per licence per year including SIM and data, with a 50-licence minimum (AED 12,000 per year). Premium is AED 290 per licence per year with a 25-licence minimum (AED 7,250 per year). A device approval certificate is listed at AED 120 (SIRA, checked August 2026).
How much does an Asateel-approved GPS device cost?
No published figure exists. The official approved list carried 29 suppliers at its 21 April 2026 status date, none of which publishes UAE device pricing, and the ITC recommends obtaining quotations from several suppliers and comparing prices. Budget the device, installation and reporting subscription together, because the quote bundles them.
Can phone GPS replace a mandated GPS tracker?
No. Asateel permits are only available for vehicles with a functioning approved tracking device installed, and SecurePath runs on SIRA-certified devices, so a phone does not satisfy either mandate. Phone GPS saves money on vehicles outside mandate scope, and by not buying a second tracker for software features on mandated ones.
What does GPS tracker installation cost in the UAE?
It is quote-only. None of the UAE tracking sites we checked in August 2026 (gpsmarket.ae, smartrack.ae, locator.ae) publishes an installation price, and installation is normally bundled into the supplier quote with the device and subscription. Ask each supplier to break out the one-off and recurring parts so quotes can be compared.
Do fleet GPS trackers need their own SIM card?
Yes, installed trackers transmit over the mobile network, and the SIM plus data is usually bundled into the supplier subscription rather than billed separately. SIRA’s published SecurePath Basic fee explicitly includes SIM and data. Since Etisalat by e& shut down 2G at the end of 2022, devices must be 4G-class; the Asateel approved list is LTE devices.
How much does GPS truck tracking software cost per month?
Almost every vendor prices by quote. As of July 2026 no named tracking vendor we reviewed publishes a GCC price list; Fleetric publishes AED 120 (Starter) and AED 95 (Pro) per truck per month as the one public anchor. Software is a separate budget line from the mandated device and its subscription.
What compliance certificates add to GPS tracking cost?
Two appear in official sources. SIRA lists a device approval certificate at AED 120 for SecurePath, and Asateel permit applications require a Certificate of Installation from the approved supplier, whose cost sits inside the supplier quote. Neither replaces the annual licence or permit renewals, which recur.
How much can phone GPS tracking save a fleet?
The saving is the entire device, installation and SIM stack on every vehicle outside mandate scope, plus the cost of a second tracker never bought for mandated vehicles. We will not invent a dirham figure for hardware nobody prices publicly; the structure of the saving is verifiable even where its size is quote-dependent.
